The Hasmonean Dreidel
1997, Jerusalem stone and brass with a patina finish.
Height 2cm, Width 2x2cm.
The Hasmonean Dreidel captures the essence of that time period. The body
of the dreidel is made of stone quarried from the actual battlegrounds of the
Maccabeans. Carved on the four sides in ancient Hebrew is the sentence “ness
gadol hayah sham/poh.” The handle and base are made out of brass, a common
material in those days, with a patina finish, giving the piece an authentic look.
