The tradition of candle-lighting on the eve of the Sabbath is both functional
and spiritual. The rabbis teach us that the Sabbath lights not only guide us
through darkness but also enhance the spirituality of the Sabbath. The Rimonim
(pomegranate) Candlesticks were inspired by Jewish tradition in which the
pomegranate symbolizes righteousness due to its having (apparently) 613 seeds,
corresponding to the 613 mitzvot/commandments of the Torah. The pomegranate
also symbolizes fruitfulness, and is one of the Seven Species mentioned in the
Torah (Exodus 28:33-34). The top of the pomegranate is crown-shaped; it is
said that King Solomon used it as the basis for his crown’s design. The base of
the pomegranate is shaped like a six-pointed Jewish star. The words “Shabbat
Kodesh” (Holy Sabbath) adorn the three tiers whose shape is reminiscent of a
woman’s skirt. Three elegant legs support the creation.
Each creation is signed by the artist and is available in a limited edition.
