The Tabernacle Washing cup
1997, sterling silver ebony wood.
Height 15.5cm, Diameter 11.5cm.
Limited edition, signed and numbered by the artist
The Tabernacle Washing cup is sterling silver vessel with a hammered finish. Due
to the frequent use of this piece, the Bauhaus principal (form follows function) was
applied. The hammered finish disguises any indentation that may result with use.
The interior has a matte finish to mask any water stains. Black ebony wood was
chosen for the handles because of its strength and ability to conceal fingerprints.
The handles are connected to the vessel with sterling silver rings, which are
symbolic of the handles of the holy ark. The face of the vessel is adorned with the
Hebrew blessing for washing hands. Each creation is signed by the artist and is
available in a limited edition.
