The Birkat HaRofeh Pen is based on the doctor’s prayer composed by Moses
ben Maimon (Maimonides), known as the Rambam. Maimonides was a devoted
physician who attended to the Sultan of Egypt in his palace. In a famous letter,
Maimonides describes his daily routine: “I find the antechambers filled with
gentiles and Jews . . . I go to heal them, and write prescriptions for their illnesses
. . . until the evening . . . and I would be extremely weak.”
The artist has created a unique pen. The body of the pen is carved of Jerusalem
stone, lending the piece an ancient feel and connecting the user to Israel and
its heart, Jerusalem. The text of the doctor’s prayer is carved in ancient Qumran
Hebrew letters. The cover and base of the pen are brass with a gold finish.
The Birkat HaRofeh Pen is a unique heirloom.
