The Jerusalem Gate Mezuzah
#M-5 1997, Jerusalem stone & glass. Height 19.5cm, Width 6 cm. Set of eight, each an exact replica of a gate of Jerusalem. Signed by the artist.
The Jerusalem Gate Mezuzah is influenced by the text found in Deuteronomy 11: “And you shall write these words upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gateways.” The Jerusalem Gate Mezuzah is part of a set that consists of eight gates, each an exact replica of the gates of the old city of Jerusalem. Special significance is attached to the fact that the stone of this mezuzah was quarried in Jerusalem. The stone is mounted on a slab of glass that houses the holy parchment. The artist’s respect for the famous Bauhaus principle of “form follows function” resounds in this creation. Each creation is signed by the artist
