A group of six napkin rings in a traditional style was fashioned in a rectangular
shape. Adorning the rings are silver bushels of wheat also available in gold plating.
The individual napkin ring has two functions. After one removes the napkin, the
ring separates into two symmetrical halves, resulting in a salt and pepper shaker.
The pieces stay together properly by a magnetic force. To prevent salt or pepper
from spilling, the pieces were designed with a leaf shaped cover which can be
turned when in use. A round silver cork at the bottom of the base unscrews for
easy refilling.
The design of the holder is an open book shape, hinting toward its function. Wooden
pegs were placed on either side to house the rings and to avoid scratches. When
the rings are in use, the stand functions as a holder for the “Birchat Hamazon” (the
booklets used in giving thanks after meals). Two arches with the Hebrew writing
“veachalta visavata ubeirachta” (“You shall eat, be satisfied and offer thanks”)
serve as handles. The piece can be made with six or more rings.
Each work is signed and numbered by the artist and is available in a limited
edition.
